Both the businesses at Victoria Terrace in the Lowestoft esplanade area and the Winelodge in Oulton its restaurant and neighbouring nightclub Escape also closed down. For many people the loss of these venues represents the end of an era in Lowestoft. The owners lamented in a statement “Unfortunately due to the current economic climate and high costs of running both buildings, we have had to make several cutbacks recently in these challenging times.”

While the news was sad it was also a time to reflect on the great memories that the venues generated for people in the local area “It has been a pleasure to provide several venues for people to enjoy over the years. From celebrity nights, boat parties, live music and celebration parties in our function room, it’s been a fantastic time. We appreciate all the hard work and dedication from all our staff in making these events happen…THANK YOU!!”

However they also emphasised this was not the end of their involvement in the local area with the Bar and Canteen still offering function rooms, food and so forth, something the owners were keen to emphasise “We are delighted to offer the full Winelodge Menu at Bar and Canteen so you can still enjoy our fantastic range in a relaxed and contemporary setting.”
