Sign up for the dragon boat race

Lowestoft

Applications are now open to enter the Dragon Boat Race at Oulton Broad. The event is held every year and raises money for the East Coast Hospice

The Dragon Race is back! After a year’s absence people have already signed up to take part with the event due to take place on 31st May. With 40 crews from all around East Anglia set to compete on a 200m race on the Broads the event is set to be very popular.

While the event is set to be great fun there is a serious purpose to it- the aim is to raise enough funds to establish the first hospice in the local area. East Coast Hospice have already received planning permission to build on a five acre site close to Beacon Park (Around the Hopton/Gorleston area)- this proposed site will include a 10 bed in-patient facility, complementary therapy facilities, day care and a garden.

Hospice community fundraiser Jeff Wood is excited by the return of the event stating “The hospice is pleased to be a part of bringing back such a high-profile event to the people of Lowestoft and Waveney. It will be a wonderful day for colleagues, friends and families to get together and challenge themselves to racing a dragon boat!”

Teams competing at the event will be given a boat, qualified helms and racing equipment. If you fancy giving this a go and raising money for the hospice go to www.dragonboatfestivals.co.uk/eastanglia or call 01780 470 718 for more information.
