After it was announced in 2014 that the Lowestoft Airshow would be hanging up its flying jacket, many feared that this staple of the town’s summer season would never return.
But now, thanks to the organisational efforts of the team behind Armed Forces Day, we will all be able to enjoy the sights and sounds of vintage planes over Lowestoft Beach.
Though the Armed Forces Day celebrations will not be anywhere near the scale of the Lowestoft Air Show in its heyday, you still expect to see the Grace Spitfire, as well as Wildcat aerobatics. Meanwhile, on the ground there will be plenty to see, including marching bands and an array of military vehicles, plus all the usual fun and refreshments of the Lowestoft sea front.
The event will take place on June 25th on the Royal Green on Marine Parade, with thousands expected to attend. Whether you’re a local, or you’re planning to visit Lowestoft over the summer, Armed Forces Day gives you a chance to see Lowestoft at its best.
Many were saddened by the demise of the Lowestoft Air Show, which saw the committee in charge forced to sell off assets, making staging the event again a difficult proposition. We’d all love to see the Air Show return to Lowestoft, and the best way to make that happen is to make Armed Forces Day a huge success.
