Local history buffs will be over the moon after the Heritage Lottery Fund has agreed to fund a new initiative aimed at uncovering forgotten details of Lowestoft’s past.
The Living Archive has been organised by students at Lowestoft Sixth Form College, and will help bring to light the colourful and under-appreciated history of our unique town. From naval history to local industry, the project will really help to put Lowestoft in perspective.
Yolanda Botham, principal of the college, told the Eastern Daily Press: “We are delighted the Living Archive bid has been successful. This project is special because it will help uncover some fascinating hidden history and really add to Lowestoft’s rich past. Our students can’t wait to get started.”
The project will culminate with a multimedia public event to be held in June, which will allow attendees to experience for themselves the vivid and enduring history of Britain’s most easterly town.
